Following are selected non-profit or
academic-based websites which provide virtually free information,
data or publications relevant to international ‘population-environment’ research
and education. We will add to this over time. (Note, this
list focuses on general resources, and excludes many narrowly
focused research projects —to
find specific research projects, search our eLibrary)
- Asian MetaCentre for Population
and Sustainable Development Analysis, a relatively
new joint endeavour to promote research and applications in
SE Asia, offering workshops, reports and funding.
- Center for International Earth
Science Information Network (CIESIN), a founder and
supporter of this website, providing a range of data, metadata
catalogs, online primers and other publications, and listservers
to promote research in the environmental sciences and global
change. CIESIN's Socioeconomic Data
and Applications Center (SEDAC) is a NASA-funded data
center that acts as a bridge between the earth and social
science research communities.
- Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars Environmental Change and Security
Project (ECSP) is an "information
clearinghouse on the views, activities and policy initiatives
falling under the rubric of "environment, population and security."
Information about public speakers, workshops and publications
are provided.
- The Forum on Science and Technology
for Sustainability seeks to facilitate information
exchange and discussion among individuals, institutions, and
networks engaged in the emerging field of science and technology
for sustainability. The website provides access to emerging
ideas, relevant activities, key documents and web sites.
- The International Institute for Applied
Systems Analysis (IIASA), a major interdisciplinary
research institute with many online working papers, research
reports, publication reprints and case studies.
- The International Human Dimensions
Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP), one
of the founders of this website.
- International Union for the Scientific
Study of Populations (IUSSP), one of the founders
of this website .
- Johns Hopkins University
Center for Communication Programs (JHUCCP), Population and Environment
Projects, with links to field projects and
online resources, including the recent Population Report.
- Population-Environment Linkages.
Online library and bibliography managed by the National Council
for Science and the Environment (NCSE), offering online bibliography
of abstracts, links to full text documents (including a search
facility linked to Popline), providing access to demographic
data, environmental documents and data, policy reports, research
articles and other resources. This site is focused more on
policy, education and advocacy.
- PopPlanet, a
project of the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) and NCSE,
provides country "briefing books" bringing together
themes of population, health, and the environment, for Nigeria,
Guatemala, Thailand and other selected countries in Asia,
Africa and Latin America.
- Population Reference Bureau (PRB),
offering news, weblinks, and publications issues such as global
population and forests, water, climate change, POPs and other
topics in population-environment research.
- STIRPAT: A research program in structural human ecology. STIRPAT is an
acronym that refers to a statistical model for assessing environmental
impacts at virtually any scale and to a research program in structural human
ecology.
