By exploring the relationship between economic growth, urbanization, energy consumption, trade openness, human capital and ecological footprints for the period 1972–2018 in Bangladesh, this study has examined the validity of the EKC hypothesis.
The authors examined associations between the sociodemographic composition of Gulf Coast census tracts and the density of petrochemical facilities that reported releases in the month following Hurricane Harvey by calculating a Hurricane Harvey petrochemical hazard density index (PHDI) based on the locations of 42 facilities with reported releases along the Texas Gulf Coast and using sociodemographic data from the American Community Survey to examine census tract-level social inequalities in PHDI (n = 1099 tracts).
Using newly available data derived from IRS tax records at the Census tract level housed at the Opportunity Atlas, combined with estimates of exposure to air pollution from vehicle traffic and the risk of lead exposure due to older housing in poor neighborhoods, the authors examin neighborhood level associations of exposure to environmental hazards among children and outcomes in late adolescence and adulthood.
Using a “Piktukowaq” (Mi'kmaw) environmental health research framework to guide the interpretation of oral histories coming from the Knowledge Holders in Pictou Landing First Nation, the study convey the deep, health ‐ enhancing relationship with A'se'k that the Piktukowaq enjoyed before it was destroyed by a pulp and paper mill pouring 85 million liters of effluent per day into a lagoon, and the health suppression that has occurred since then.

The authors study how onshore oil spills affect neonatal and infant mortality by combining spatial data from the Nigerian Oil Spill Monitor with Demographic and Health Surveys. They compare siblings born to the same mother, conceived before and after a nearby oil spill, to identify a causal effect. The results show that nearby oil spills that occur before conception increase neonatal mortality by 38.3 deaths per 1,000 live births, which corresponds to an increase of around 100% on the sample mean.

The subject matter is interdisciplinary, but a strong emphasis is placed on the role of social and economic factors.
